This page sets out what NYC Chinese Supermarket Weekly (chaoshiweekly.com) does and does not learn about you. Every item below corresponds to code that actually runs on this site, or to a vendor's own published policy. Nothing we do not do is listed here.
We collect no personal information ourselves
There are no accounts, no sign-in, no back-end user database, and we take no payment information. You do not need to give a name, an email address or a phone number to use anything on this site.
Three things kept in your own browser and never uploaded
The three items below are written only to local storage on your own device. They are never sent to our servers, and clearing your browser data removes them:
- csw.followedStores — the stores you follow
- csw.trackedItems — the items you track
- elderMode — whether large-text mode is on
Google Analytics 4
The live site loads Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-35BK2N0BCD, script served from googletagmanager.com; it is not loaded in local development). It sets _ga cookies in your browser and automatically records page views (including in-site navigation), scrolling and clicks.
In addition to that automatic collection, we send four events of our own: search and search_no_result — both of which carry the term you typed into the search box; follow_store; and track_item, which carries an item ID.
Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights
The site is hosted on Vercel, with its Web Analytics and Speed Insights enabled.
- Web Analytics uses no cookies: it identifies a visitor by a hash computed from the request, and discards it after 24 hours. Each data point stores a timestamp, the URL, the dynamic route, the referrer, filtered query parameters, coarse location (country/state/city), device operating system, browser and device type.
- Speed Insights is anonymous. Vercel's own policy states that it "does not collect or store any information that could be used to reconstruct a browsing session or identify a user"; it stores the route, URL, network speed, browser, device type and operating system, country, and Web Vitals metrics.

About cookies
Our own code sets no cookies at all — even NEXT_LOCALE, which would remember your language choice, is explicitly switched off. The third parties above do set them: Google Analytics sets the _ga cookies, and once advertising is in place Google and its partners will set advertising cookies. So the accurate statement is "this site sets no cookies of its own; third parties do", not "this site uses no cookies".
Advertising
This site does not currently show any advertising. We are applying to join Google AdSense, and this section describes what will apply once advertising goes live — until then there are no ads on any page and no advertising cookies.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
